Run Soweto

November 2, 2014

Singing and dancing at the start line.

Last year, we Ran Jozi. This year, we upped the anti, and Ran Soweto. Because, well, why not?

In case you are wondering what the heck Soweto isit's a township located on the south-western edge of the city of Johannesburg: SOuth WEstern TOwnships...get it? Actually, there's another theory of where the name came from- the township is made up of people who were relocated during Apartheid, and when they were told they must leave their current neighbourhoods, they said "SO, WhEre TO...?"

In that spirit, we joined tens of thousands of other runners, and made Soweto our chosen destination.

All the front runners for the full marathon were lined up and chomping at the bit to get started.

Ready to go!

Running in fluorescent through the purple streets.

R did the half marathon- I did a little less than half of that :)

The People's Race. Love that.

And of course, our fabulous cheering squad. You guys are amazing (even though you make strange faces sometimes).
