Something we have in common with M's parents is that we all love wine. We knew they would really enjoy a weekend in the wine lands exploring the delicious wines this country has to offer. We did a self-drive tour of the Somerset West area, into Stellenbosch with a final destination of Franschhoek. We have visited the town of Franschhoek before, but only briefly, so we were keen to spend a bit more time there. Of the wine towns we've been to and heard of in South Africa, this is by far on the top of our list. With lovely shops, world-renowned restaurants, and of course, fantastic vineyards and wineries, this was the perfect place to take M's parents. Bottom's up! Oh wait...I mean, swirl, sniff and sip...
First stop: Aventuur Estate, Sommerset West.
Posing with the grapes (on the vine and in the bottle).
Stunning countryside.
Hidden Valley Winery: they also have an olive grove and sell the most delicious olives I've ever tasted.
I can never get enough of this scenery.
Lunch at Guardian Peak.
Photo op with the 'rents.
Wine and Chocolate pairing at Bilton Wines. Delish.
Spending Sunday morning doing some shopping, sightseeing and sipping in Franschhoek.
Lunch at Bread & Wine.
Quick pit stop in Cape Town before M and I headed to the airport and left M's parents to spend the week exploring the Mother City.
It must be nice to be able to share your love for wine with M's parents. There are lots of fantastic ways to bond with someone, but I gotta hand it to you for having been able to share a unique interest with your loved one's parents. The vineyard looks amazing, and the photos you took looks lovely. Thanks for sharing that, Alison! I hope you can enjoy more trips like that in the future. All the best!
